<Description>

Published by Shogakukan in 1983, The King's Dream: Ludwig II brings together the photography of Kishin Shinoyama and writing by the critic Koji Taki. Its subject is the architectural and imaginative world associated with King Ludwig II of Bavaria, whose fascination with medieval legends, theatrical spectacle and historical styles shaped some of nineteenth-century Europe's most extraordinary royal building projects. Shinoyama photographs castles, forests, mountains, richly decorated interiors, painted ceilings, portraits and sculptural details. The imagery moves between immense architectural spaces and intimate elements of decoration, often employing saturated blues, deep shadows and carefully controlled viewpoints. Mist-covered landscapes and buildings glimpsed through foliage give the sequence a dreamlike atmosphere, while elaborate rooms reveal the scale and intensity of the king's artistic ambitions. Ludwig II commissioned Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee during an era when historicist architecture transformed earlier artistic traditions into new environments. The photographs explore how those ambitions survive materially in stone, ornament, landscape and constructed perspective. Koji Taki's contribution provides a written counterpart to the visual investigation. The book's generous colour spreads make its architectural subjects unusually immersive. Through the contrast between monumental interiors and quiet natural surroundings, Shinoyama constructs a photographic journey into the relationship between royal imagination, built form and the landscapes that continue to frame Ludwig's legacy.

<介紹>
