<Description>
Published by the independent Mie-based publisher Gettosha in March 2015, Mie Wonderland is the first photobook by Japanese photographer Koyuki Tayama. Born in Shizuoka and trained in photography at Tokyo Zokei University, Tayama moved to Mie in 2011, where she worked for the regional magazine NAGI and began exploring the prefecture with a medium-format film camera. The book gathers sixty black-and-white photographs selected from her journeys across eleven areas of Mie, including Ise, Kumano, Futami, Kamishima and Owase. Mountains, coastal formations, village roads, religious gatherings and fleeting human activity appear in compositions attentive to the textures and rhythms of local landscapes. Rather than imposing a single visual identity upon the region, the sequence moves between expansive natural forms and the smaller gestures through which communities inhabit them. The project grew from Tayama's photographic series in NAGI, where the perspective of someone encountering Mie from outside became an important part of her approach. In a contemporary interview, she recalled being moved by a ritual at Kumano's Hana no Iwaya shrine, especially the sense of continuity linking different generations through a shared act. The resulting photographs give everyday places a heightened atmosphere while remaining grounded in specific geography and cultural practice. With its horizontal format, considered sequencing and delicate monochrome tonalities, Mie Wonderland offers a personal exploration of landscape, memory and the passage of time.

<介紹>
